As the LBNL Interlocks Subject Matter Exper, you will lead and maintain Berkeley Lab's Safety Interlock program. This position will be partially matrixed to the Advanced Light Source Upgrade project (ALS-U) Division where you’ll be the Technical Lead overseeing the full system life cycle and analyzing and designing Safety Instrumented Systems for both ionizing and non-ionizing prompt radiation. You will have oversight responsibility for the design of the safety systems of the Berkeley Lab Laser Accelerator, the 88-Inch Cyclotron, the ALS/ALS-U and other radiation generating facilities and systems at LBNL.

Additionally, participate in R&D activities developing active interlock systems and systems for complex scientific facilities and instruments.

Independently plan and complete small projects and/or contribute to large projects. Work is intellectual, non-routine, and requires judgment and decision making. The System Safety Engineer will direct the efforts of Engineers, Associate Engineers and Technicians in addition to collaborating with Engineers and Scientists within LBNL, DOE labs, and the international accelerator community. This position reports to the ALS Electrical Engineering and Controls Lead at ALS.

This position will be hired at a level commensurate with the business needs; and skills, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate.
