About This Opportunity 

This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Fellow to contribute to setting up the integrated photonics research program within Dr Romero's group, Qudits@UQ. The project aims to develop components for photonic information processing on-chip. This will involve setting up a new experimental capability for designing, fabricating, characterising, and testing the performance of on-chip photonic devices.

 Key responsibilities include:  

Level A and B

Research

  • Conduct research and develop research program in experimental, integrated quantum photonics
  • Establish capability to design, fabricate, characterise, and test on-chip photonic devices
  • Present the results of their research in leading international peer-reviewed journals and conferences

Supervision and Researcher Development

  • Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students

Citizenship and Service

  • Contribute to internal service roles and administrative processes as required, including participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.
  • Begin to develop external links and partnerships by cultivating relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.

Selection Criteria 

  • Applicants will have (or be in the process of obtaining) a PhD in Physics, in areas related to Photonics, Quantum Information or Quantum Engineering
  • Strong background and demonstrated ability to carry out research in integrated photonics, with high-level theoretical and experimental skills
  • Experimental experience (e.g. fabrication, testing) in one or more of the integrated photonic platforms (e.g. silicon-on-insulator, silicon nitride, lithium niobate)
  • Demonstrated research quality and creativity evidenced by highly-cited publications (relative to publication year) in leading international peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Demonstrated capacity to supervise research postgraduate and honours students
  • High-level of verbal and written communication skills (together with their CV, the applicant is invited to submit a sample of their scientific writing, something they are most proud of)
  • High level interpersonal skills including ability to interact well with colleagues, staff, and students 
  • For Level B: In addition to those above, demonstrated capacity to take chief investigator role in applications for external research funds
