Pay Range

$113,730- $153,264 annually for the TSS.2 level

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We have an opening for a Deputy Project Manager to support accelerator operations at the laboratory. You will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists, electrical, mechanical, and software engineers, technicians, buyers and contract analysts, financial analysts, and facility managers. You will work on a variety of projects that will range from routine maintenance to the deployment of new, state of the art system improvements. You will work closely with senior project managers and will be responsible for day-to-day management activities as well as for leading project tasks. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate.

You will

  • Participate in the development of project/task plans that typically comprise project execution plans, work breakdown structures (WBS), resource/cost estimates, integrated master schedules (IMS), and assessments of risk and opportunity.
  • Apply management principles to multiple moderately complex technical projects/tasks at any given time while helping to balance resources and identify risk.
  • Monitor the progress of work and the impact of changes (technical, labor, costs, schedule).
  • Participate in variance analysis and development/execution of recovery plans.
  • Contribute to technical/management reports/presentations.
  • Participate in periodic project reviews with stakeholders.
  • Guide multidisciplinary teams to perform project tasks for the fulfillment of project goals (technical operational).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or related technical field, or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Broad application of and experience with project management principles used in managing complex research and development technical projects.
  • Experience applying analytical and problem-solving skills to business outlooks such as forecasting, cost/benefit analysis, and trending.
  • Effective organizational skills, task prioritization, attention to detail, accuracy, and follow through.
  • Experience organizing work teams to complete hardware builds, maintenance tasks or operational tasks on complex equipment.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills necessary to communicate with multidisciplinary team members and influence outcomes, as well as use discretion and problem-solving skills to resolve issues.


Qualifications We Desire

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent training and certification.
  • Experience as an operational lead on complex research equipment.
