Pay Range
$322,110 - $415,692 Annually
Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
Job Description
We have an opening for a Weapon Technologies and Engineering (WTE) Deputy Program Director to work with the WTE Program Director (PD) in all aspects of Program leadership and management in the WTE Program. You will work closely with the WTE Program Director and the WTE senior management team to accomplish WTE and Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) programmatic deliverables and will serve as the principal backup for the WTE PD in their absence. You will interact with all levels of management both within LLNL and external to the Laboratory including DOE/NNSA, DoD, academic institutions, management at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Sandia National Laboratory (SNL), the Nevada Nuclear Security Site (NNSS) and the NNSA Production Agencies (PAs). This position is in the WCI Directorate.
In this role you will:
- Partner with WTE PD and program stakeholders to execute a roughly $650M portfolio related to Weapon’s engineering, technology, and materials science.
- Manage and implement special studies and long-term WTE programmatic objectives.
- Develop and execute WTE strategic planning path forward and provide leadership, vision, management, and programmatic direction to all elements of the WTE program.
- Develop, manage, and communicate program objectives, accomplishments, and plans to the WTE workforce.
- Represent the WTE Program to WCI management at internal and external meetings, working groups, and on special assignments, including preparing and giving presentations. Represent the PD in their absence across a broad range of issues in a variety of environments.
- Lead WTE programmatic reviews of program activities to mitigate risk and ensure work is appropriately planned, executed, and best practices are applied.
- Promote and maintain strong relationships and communication with NNSA and other NNSA laboratories and sites.
- Serve as the principal advisor to the WTE PD in all WTE planning, decision making, and execution of programmatic scope.
- Develop and promote partnerships and collaborations across LLNL with disciplines and other programs to ensure programmatic deliverables are met.
- Develop and implement plans to promote culture, diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, materials science or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Significant experience and expertise in nuclear weaponization and knowledge of the NNSA Stockpile Stewardship mission.
- Extensive skills and experience in forming and leading teams to successfully execute large-scale projects and programs safely and securely. Expertise in strategic planning and organizational dynamics and extensive experience in decision making based on aggregate information and the recommendations of others that significantly affect the ability of the organization and Laboratory to achieve its overall objectives and long-range goals.
- Experience sustaining productive relationships with other divisions, directorates, laboratories, NNSA management, other institutions across the DOE and DoD enterprise, and external advisors and reviewers.
- Comprehensive knowledge and/or experience working on national-security policy issues.
- Expert communication skills, both written and verbal, present, negotiate, advise, and influence all levels of management and government officials.
- Expert problem solving, analytical, technical, organizational, and management skills necessary to independently advise, recommend, and approve appropriate actions and implement solutions.
- Demonstrated experience implementing plans that promote and value diversity, equity and inclusion principles in the workplace.
