You will join the ESRF’s Structural Biology (SB) Group to play a key role in the engagement with the pharmaceutical industry and service provision using state-of-the-art synchrotron macromolecular crystallography beamlines. The Structural Biology Group has a significant and vibrant activity in providing services for proprietary research. The main part of this commercial activity is centred on the access to five macromolecular crystallography end-stations. Between October 2023 and June 2026, the ESRF will welcome industry clients from the Swiss Light Source (SLS) to cover their commercial client access needs during their upgrade long closure.

Your missions, working closely with the commercial user community, will be to drive the technical enhancement of the beamlines for industry. You will use the MX beamline ID23-1 as a test-bed, harvesting updated needs and new features from clients. These enhancements will be first deployed, tested and monitored on ID23-1, and once proven reliable and stable, you will make sure they are transferred and implemented on the other macromolecular crystallography beamlines.

To achieve this, you will work in tandem with the ESRF permanent Industrial Liaison engineer for structural biology and in close interaction with the Structural Biology Group beamline staff as well with the Data Analysis Unit, Beamline Control Unit and Business Development Office teams.

  • University degree or engineer diploma in a related discipline (Licenciatura, Master, MSc  or equivalent diploma offering 300 ECTS);
  • More than 3 years of experience in synchrotron-based structural biology;
  • An excellent understanding of the use of synchrotron radiation by the pharma industry;
  • Ability to interact with multi-disciplinary staff and facility users;
  • Very good communication skills;
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritize;
  • A very good level of spoken and written English.

Fixed-term contract of 36 months maximum.

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
