AWE is currently recruiting for a Metallurgist, within the Metals and Tritium Group within our Materials and Analytical Science (MAS) function.

Location: Reading

Salary: £33,770 - £50,650 (dependant on suitability and level of experience)

This role is to provide technical knowledge and expertise in the field of materials and chemical science. Delivery of the programme and external collaborative projects, in a cost effective, quality conscious, safe and secure manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning technical projects, programmes and trials.
  • Analysing, characterise and assessing samples using agreed analytical procedures and processes.
  • Identifying and rectifying problems in analyses and processes, and/or know when to seek assistance where needed in rectifying them.
  • Acting as a representative in all relevant internal and external interactions, including the US National Laboratories.
  • Maintaining and develop underpinning experimental capabilities.
  • Maintaining and develop knowledge in a particular scientific or product field and share best practice.
  • Undertaking work in compliance with Company processes, standards, and procedures.

We would be interested in hearing from candidates who can demonstrate knowledge or experience in some of the following:

  • Degree in scientific or STEM subject or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of large multi-disciplinary team
  • Confident with building and maintaining effective internal and external relationships
  • Good communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Effective multi-task working, identify and manage priorities and work to challenging timescales
  • Experience in mechanical testing
  • Data analysis experience
  • Knowledge of materials characterisation techniques
  • Failure analysis experience
  • Knowledge of metallurgical manufacturing processes
  • Experience working with international materials standards
  • Evidence of working to defined quality requirements
  • Good report writing skills
  • High standards in security and safety

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role
