We are small but undergoing rapid growth and so we need to expand our Power Electronics team with an individual to work in a multi-disciplinary environment on a range of R&D projects in power electronics. We are now looking for a Principal Engineer who will offer specialist advice and technical expertise to the Power Electronics team.

Main responsibilities:

  • Technical lead for assigned collaborative and commercial power electronics R&D projects for a variety of customer applications
  • Engineering work package owner responsible for carrying out a range of engineering activities whilst co-ordinating junior engineers and technicians.
  • Translate basic specifications into circuit topologies that optimise converter power efficiency and power density to demonstrate the benefits of using SiC and GaN devices.
  • Assess candidate power conversion topologies using circuit modelling and simulation.
  • Assess PCB designs to optimise electromagnetic and thermal performance.
  • Support the activities of the power electronics team as well as collaborate with the other engineering functions of Advanced Packaging, RF/Microwave and Photonics to deliver cross functional projects.
  • Technical Reporting to project team and wider audience to demonstrate regular progress.
  • Responsible for materials, design and delivery of sub-assemblies contributing towards
  • Engineering Evaluation Modules
  • Technical risk assessment

About you; you will have;

  • PhD / Master’s degree level qualification in power electronics or electrical engineering.
  • A significant experience with tangible contributions in demonstrable power electronics devices / converters design experience for various application fields preferable in automotive, aerospace and energy sectors.
  • High familiarity with SiC / GaN power switching devices technologies and their operational and manufacturing challenges.
  • Excellent team working skills with the ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with multi-teams’ cooperative projects.
  • Experience in technical leadership of simultaneous operated multi-discipline

Desirable experience

  • Systems engineering approach to projects
  • 8D problem solving methodology
  • Embedded systems control
  • Familiar with engineering lifecycle management
  • History of translating research output into working prototypes
  • Skilled in EDA / PCB design / embedded programming
