We are looking for a personable, customer-focused Community Events Coordinator to join us on a permanent, full-time basis. Recognising a strategic focus for the company this new role is part of an ongoing expansion of IOP Publishing’s Journals Development team in Beijing,(which also includes the current recruitment of two new Editorial Development Manager roles). You’ll therefore be joining us at an exciting time in our journey as we look to expand in the region! Role Overview

IOP Publishing’s (IOPP) Journal Development team is responsible for the management, growth and development of IOPP’s portfolio of proprietary and partner-owned journals. The team works closely with editorial board members, editors and authors worldwide to ensure that our journals publish best in class research content that is timely and relevant. 

As part of this new role, you will provide expertise and administrative resource in planning and co-ordinating a range of online and in-person events, and play a significant role in developing researcher networks and relationships to support new content growth across our journals. The role will also give you the opportunity to travel to academic conferences, editorial board/partner meetings, research institutions and training seminars in China.

What will you be doing?

Key job accountabilities include:

  • Working with the Journals Development team to support the organisation and administration of community engagement events;
  • Being a central liasing contact for the publishing team, event hosts, partner societies, scientific programme committees and speakers in planning and co-ordinating event logistics;
  • Providing and/or co-ordinating necessary training for Chairs and speakers on conference platform technology (for online events), and trouble-shooting technical issues;
  • Pre-event analyis to identify appropriate event locations and participants;
  • Collaborating with the Research Communications Manager in Beijing and publishing colleagues to help promote events through relevant channels and activities;
  • Owning the co-ordination and administration of partner and Scientific Advisory Board meetings in China (including venue and catering arrangements,, logistical communications, and the preparing of meeting agendas and relevant accompanying documents).

About you:

Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • University degree or relevant experience in the publishing industry;
  • Previous experience of co-ordinating both in-person and online events in China;
  • An understanding of the role of academic research journals and the expectations of researchers in the scholarly communication process;
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Mandarin, with strong interpersonal skills to engage with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Strong customer service ethos, and excellent organisational skills.

Our Beijing Office:

This role is based in our Beijing office, with the possibility of working from home 2 days per week.

The office is in the North-West part of the city, which is known to be a highly academic area, and it’s easily accessible by public transportation. We currently have 18 colleagues (a mixture of editors, publishers, sales and marketing roles) working here, but there’s plenty of room to accommodate new friendly faces! To keep everyone engaged and feel like they’re part of the IOPP community, we organise monthly office get togethers, and we also have regular team building activities.

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer social insurances, house funding at the highest rate and 20 days of annual leave.
