Job Details
The Center for Navigation, Time, and Frequency Research (Centaur) at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to carry out externally funded research that is focused on the understanding and design of microresonators in integrated photonics that can generate optical solitons that can be used in time and frequency measurement systems. A rank of Assistant Research Professor, Associate Research Professor, or Research Professor in the CSEE Department will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates. The salary will be commensurate with experience. More information regarding UMBC's research faculty positions may be found in the UMBC faculty handbook (http://www.umbc.edu/provost/Faculty_Handbook/contents.pdf).
The research will be carried out in the research group of Drs. Menyuk, Carter, and Simsek and will be directed by Dr. Menyuk. More information on Dr. Menyuk's research activities may be found at http://photonics.umbc.edu/. The successful candidate(s) must be able to interact well with the graduate research assistants (GRAs) as well as with the other faculty in this group. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to participate in mentoring GRAs and light teaching as well as carrying out their own research.
In addition to their own research activity, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in other ongoing research projects in the group of Drs. Menyuk, Simsek, and Carter. These include experimental studies of microresonator soliton in a variety of platforms, modelocked and high-energy lasers, special optical fibers and their applications, photodetector design, photonic applications of artificial intelligence, among other activities. Members of the group collaborate with researchers at laboratories in the greater Washington, DC area, including the US Army Research Laboratory, the US Naval Research Laboratory, the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, and the National Institute for Standards and Technology. Members of this group also collaborate with researchers at several US and international universities. The successful candidate(s) will have the opportunity to interact with collaborators at these institutions.
