Opportunities in Mission Solutions
QinetiQ is growing – and it is a great time to be part of the community. As we enter new markets around the world, we need talented Scientists, Mathematicians, Engineers and Developers to join our Mission Solutions teams. You may have experience in Systems Engineering or Software Engineering/Development, or you may be a talented Algorithm Developer or have worked in Sensor and/or Data Fusion.
You will be part of a business that was named the Most Admired Aerospace & Defence Company in the Britain’s Most Admired Companies 2021 study. You will also be joining a diverse, inclusive employer that is proud to provide a collaborative, open working environment. With our Adaptive approach, you will enjoy the work-life balance that suits you best, thanks to remote, hybrid and flexible working practices; but please bear in mind that, because of the nature of our business, fully remote working will not be an option.
We currently have opportunities in Mission Solutions across our sites in Malvern, Lincoln, Farnborough and Portsmouth, but location may not be an issue if you have the skills and enthusiasm that we seek. If you are interested in joining us – now or in the future – we would love to hear from you.
If your skills fit one of our opportunities, we shall be in contact. If we don’t have a role that is right for you at the moment, we shall keep your CV on file for possible opportunities in the future.
What do our Mission Solutions Scientists, Mathematicians, Engineers and Developers do?
Our Mission Solutions people have a broad understanding of analysis, modelling and simulation concepts and technologies that encompass the entire sensor to effect chain; from the gathering, processing, assimilation and fusion of data, to the exploitation of the resultant information. These tasks may include the design of new mission systems or the enhancement of existing systems, including digital modelling and process development, coding and software development, data fusion, test and evaluation, and operational analysis. Examples of our past and current tasking include working on the UKs Combat Air Platforms and we have significant experience in the development of enhanced tools and techniques to improve the operational effectiveness and performance for the Typhoon and Lightning. As for the future, we are now looking to extend this capability by building a team that is AI and Machine Learning focussed so that we influence the design of the next generation of platforms such as FCAS and the Type 31 warships. To join this ever-growing team, you might have knowledge and skills in some of the following areas:
- Model based engineering;
- Autonomy and AI in mission-driven applications;
- Development, and test and integration of HMI processes;
- Software development with core skills in Matlab and Python preferred, but knowledge of other programming languages useful;
- Data fusion in an operational context, using machine learning and neural networking techniques;
- Interoperability techniques including the use of tactical datalinks and secure communications;
- Synthetic environments for assessing performance using data and statistical analysis;
- Development and integration of mission planning systems;
- Development, production, test and evaluation of mission data;
- Practical and theoretical research, considering the use of emerging technologies to provide evidence and ideas for future mission systems.

In your first role or have some experience in Mission Solutions? Your talents may be a good match for our team. You will be offered the opportunities to develop your depth and breadth of expertise and experience and set you on the path for advancement.
Opportunities for mid-career Mission Solutions Scientists, Mathematicians, Engineers and Developers

This includes expert training and mentoring, with increased emphasis on self-development and on-the-job training.
Opportunities for highly experienced Scientists, Mathematicians, Engineers and Developers

If you have senior management potential, we’ll spot and nurture it. However, to progress to more senior roles, you’ll need to be an active member of an appropriate professional body.
